<para>This is the OBIS extraction of Ribbon seal (Histriophoca fasciata) location data from a satellite telemetry tag (ptt id 85865) deployed in the Bering Sea, and the Gulf of Alaska from 2010-05-17 to 2011-02-04, deployment id 56c3c22be36c4f25268549e9 from the U.S. Animal Telemetry Network (ATN). This extraction is a subset of detections intended to be useful for the OBIS network. The source dataset, containing the full set of detections, is available at NCEI: https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/archive/accession/0305381. The entire collection of satellite telemetry location and profile data collected from satellite-linked tags deployed on marine animals and contributed by organizations that are part of the U.S. Animal Telemetry Network (ATN) can be found at: https://doi.org/10.25921/wp4e-ph20</para>

<para>Movements of marine animals are a fundamental element of ocean ecosystem dynamics. Telemetry, the use of electronic tag technology to study animal movement, is a critical tool for the biological monitoring of marine life. The multi-agency U.S. Animal Telemetry Network (ATN) has been established to provide unity, stability, and continuity to the national infrastructure that facilitates the collection, management, and availability of this marine animal telemetry data.</para>
